The 80th Annual Academy Awards telecast is set for Sunday, February 24th at Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. The annual Oscar presentation has been held since 1929 and recognizes excellence in cinema achievement.
All voting is conducted by secret ballot and tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers, an international auditing firm. The results are not revealed until the envelopes are opened on live television, and winners are awarded the prized Oscar statuettes using that all familiar line….”and the Oscar goes to….”
Preparation activities have been at a fevered pitch and rehearsals non stop for the past week. Jon Stewart will host the event in his second stint. He hosted the 78th Annual two years ago. Last year Ellen DeGeneres had the hosting duties. Stewart is the host and executive producer of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
For those who want a walk down memory lane, last years Best Actor was Forest Whitaker in ‘The Last King of Scotland‘. Best Actress went to Helen Mirren for ‘The Queen‘. Best Picture honors went to ‘The Departed‘.
