Madonna and Russia may not be the best fit.

During her concert earlier this month in St. Petersburg, Madonna asked the capacity crowd to raise their hands in support of gays and lesbians.

Nice gesture, right? Yes … but ILLEGAL.

It’s against the law there to promote homosexuality to minors in St. Petersburg, and there were kids as young as 12 at the concert in question.

Nine activists have now filed a suit for 333 million rubles ($10.5 million) against the pop star, her show’s organizer and the hall where it was held.

Madonna allegedly stomped on an Orthodox cross and told her adoring audience to raise their pink armbands in support of the gay community.

Madonna also made headlines by supporting Pussy Riot, the Russian band jailed for staging a protest show at a Russian Orthodox cathedral.

If she’s not careful, she may end up being charged with hooliganism herself … but would you ever expect Madonna to bow to authority?
