PETA has launched an attack campaign against Kentucky Fried Chicken. They have enlisted the help of several high profile heavy hitters to lend their name to the cause. They’ve even got a Drag Queen on their side.
Lady Bunny has jumped on the bandwagon and posed for an ad campaign that is now a giant billboard in Soho. The huge building sized plea urges the good citizens of New York City to boycott KFC. The script for the ad states:
“Sometimes big bright packages contain dirty little secrets. The Colonel’s ‘secret recipe’ is cruelty to animals. Kick the bucket at KentuckyFriedCruelty.com”.
According to PETA’s website, Pamela Anderson, His Holiness The Dahai Lama, Sir Paul McCartney and Rev. Al Sharpton and others are not eating at KFC.
Followers of the movement detail poor animal handling practices by suppliers to KFC. It seems that dogs, cats, pigs and cows are protected from the types of handling processes that chickens are subjected to while they are being fattened for slaughter and the way that they are killed.
Rather than push for legislation to protect chickens, PETA seems to favor forcing KFC to handle the issues with their suppliers. According to the website, the chicken kingpin isn’t feeling especially receptive to that idea.
We’ve all heard that if we were fully aware of how any of our meat was processed we would never eat it again. Perhaps that is what motivates the Vegan lifestyle. They say ignorance is bliss. I’m just saying….
