“Get Smart” star Anne Hathaway had her world turned upside down when the man that she loved turned out to be a fraud. Ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri plead guilty today to 14 counts that were brought against him at the Manhattan Federal Court.
A breakdown of what charges Follieri plead guilty to are: One count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and 5 counts of money laundering.
Judge John Koeltl moved the sentencing date to Oct. 3rd when Flora Edwards, who is Follieri’s lawyer explained to the judge that her client would not be able to come up with the $21 million in bail money. Edwards went on to say that he was having a difficult time being in prison and that he wasn’t getting any outside air.
The maximum sentence could be 265 years in prison. No appeal will be made unless he gets a sentence of anything more than 63 months.
The con artist must still have some money left because he is giving up $2.44 million which was obtained from “illegal activity.” Along with the money, he will give up 12 watches and 9 pieces of jewelry.
