President Barack Obama threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Nationals home opener against the Philadelphia Phillies today in Washington D.C. He was wearing a Nationals windbreaker and Chicago White Sox hat — a nod to his beloved hometown team.
The president was greeted with a mixture of boos and applause after emerging from the Nationals’ dugout. His opening pitch turned out to be a floater that came in high and off the plate — no bounce. His catcher was Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman.
Obama stayed for three innings. When he left the D.C. team was leading 1-0. The National League Champion Phillies eventually beat the Washington Nationals 11-1.
