The body of Monica Beresford-Redman was found strangled in a Cancun sewer at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday and her 38-year-old husband, former Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is the chief suspect in her murder. The woman had also suffered a heavy blow to the right temple.
According to Monica’s sister Carla Burgos, Bruce was having an affair that his wife recently found out about. The woman in question was someone who worked with Monica’s husband. The deceased woman’s sister is convinced that her brother-in-law killed Monica.
She said, “I know he was having an affair and Monica found out. I’m sure now that he killed her. There were witnesses who heard someone screaming and calling for help. Bruce also had scratches on his arm.”
The couple and their two small children had been staying at Moon Palace Resort in Cancun when Bruce Beresford-Redman reported his wife missing. He told authorities that the last time he saw his wife was Monday when she left to go shopping, taking only her credit cards and leaving her passport and cell phone in the room.
Police took the husband into custody after his wife’s body was discovered on Thursday morning at the bottom of a sewer. He was detained for 24 hours and questioned extensively. Police released him on Friday with instructions not to leave the country according to investigator Veronica Acacio. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence that is needed before their prime suspect can be charged in his wife’s death.
Francisco Alor, the attorney general for Quintana Roo, has confirmed that the suspect had scratches on his arms and face and that other resort guests heard an argument in the couple’s room on Monday night. A security guard also reported seeing the couple arguing on Monday night, and saw the husband try to hit his wife. He reported her missing on Tuesday morning.
Monica, who was born in Rio de Janeiro and still had parents there, was the owner of Brazilian eatery Zabumba Bar & Restaurant in Venice. Her husband has been a producer for CBS show Survivor, The Contender, Pimp My Ride and The Restaurant.
The couple and their children lived in Palos Verdes – as seen in photos and video coverage below:
