Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have mended fences and are engaged to be married. They decided they wanted to get the word out, after so much negative news had been reported about them, so they contacted US magazine for an exclusive.
The kicker is that Sarah Palin was totally in the dark about this newest turn of events until the story broke this morning, reportedly because Levi and Bristol didn’t know how to break the news. Nineteen-year-old Palin explained: “It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board.”
Bristol revealed: “We got engaged two weeks ago. It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.”
Johnston, 20, has slung a fair amount of dirt at the former governor and VP candidate in the past. Knowing he had burned many bridges and might well be shown the door, he decided to trudge forward for the sake of their 18-month-old son.
Levi said: “I really thought we were over. So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk.”
Bristol continued the story: “When he left that night, we didn’t hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: ‘I miss you. I love you. I want to be with you again’ … I was in shock.”
Earlier this month Johnston and Palin issued statements to People magazine – that appear to have been their way to set the stage for the big announcement. She said: “We want to turn a new page here as co-parents … and put aside the past because doing so is in our son Tripp’s best interest.”
Levi’s statement read: “To the Palin family in general and to Sarah Palin in particular, please accept my regrets and forgive my youthful indiscretion. I hope one day to restore your trust.”
