Michael Been, vocalist/guitarist for the 1980s band The Call, collapsed and died Thursday while running sound for son Robert Been‘s band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Been was on tour as the sound engineer for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club when he had a heart attack backstage at the Pukkelpop festival in Hasselt, Belgium. He was 60 years old.
The Call, an alternative rock band from Santa Cruz, CA, had several hits in the early 80s, including “The Walls Came Down” and “Let the Day Begin.”
Al Gore used “Let The Day Begin” as his campaign song in the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election and Tom Vilsack used it as his song during his brief 2008 U.S. Presidential Election campaign.
