The 2010 Miss Universe pageant aired Monday on NBC from Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The evening was hosted by rocker Bret Michaels and NBC Today Show regular Natalie Morales.
Telecast judges included Chazz Palminteri, Chynna Phillips, Criss Angel, Evan Lysacek, Jane Seymour, Niki Taylor, Sheila E., Tamron Hall and William Baldwin.
Eighty-three contestants brought their A-game to Sin City, but it was Mexico’s Jimena Navarrete who was crowned Miss Universe 2010, and will represent Donald Trump‘s pageant organization for the next 12 months. The only other time Mexico won the crown was Lupita Jones in 1991.
Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela had the official duty of crowning her predecessor.
Jimena’s prize package includes a full wardrobe suitable for public appearances, complete with shoes and makeup. She will receive a collection of jewelry – including a diamond and ruby-studded crown, designer swimwear, a scholarship to a NYC film and acting school, and a penthouse apartment in Manhattan.
First runner-up, Yendi Phillipps of Jamaica, will step in as Miss Universe if Navarrete is unable to fulfill her duties. Second runner-up Australia also won Miss Congeniality. Third runner-up was Ukraine, and fourth runner-up was Philippines.
The gorgeous Miss Thailand won Miss Photogenic and Favorite National Costume.
In true Trump style, this year’s competition included a nude photo shoot — with the women wearing nothing but body paint. The Miss USA 2010 contestants had their own gallery of racy pics that raised a few eyebrows.
