Falling ice from the roof of Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas has injured six contract workers, one critically. Five of the victims were transported to Arlington Memorial Hospital and the critically injured worker was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Large sheets of ice over the east and west entrances began to fall off the stadium roof as temperatures warmed — cascading out as far as 70 feet onto the plaza as the ice caught air during its descent.

A rep for the NFL released a statement, “The ice and snow melting off the Cowboys Stadium roof has caused several sliding snow and ice falls onto the plazas. There have been several injuries. All the stadium entrances have been closed except for the truck tunnel, which is away from the building by a very safe distance. All workers and visitors will now enter through the tunnel until further notice.”

The injury victims are employees of the NFL who were prepping for Super Bowl XLV — the Sunday showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
