Tiki files for NFL reinstatement …
Tiki Barber has filed for NFL reinstatement four years after retiring. Citing wear and tear on his body, he ended his football career in 2006 after 10 seasons with the New York Giants. That was then and things have changed.
Barber pursued a new line of work as an NBC broadcast analyst. That sweet deal evaporated following his extra-marital affair with 23-year-old intern Traci Lynn Johnson.
His actions shocked his network employers when he announced that he was divorcing his wife Ginny Barber during her 8th month of pregnancy with their twin daughters. They also have two sons.
NBC opted not to renew Barber’s contract and he was released in May 2010. He has since struggled to find other broadcast work and told a court in June 2010 that he was broke and couldn’t pay his wife a divorce settlement..
The Giants have wished Tiki well in his comeback but are not interested in signing him to a new contract. They plan to release him from their retired list — thus giving him a chance to hook up with another franchise.
According to Barber’s agent Mark Lepselter, there is interest from other unnamed teams. He will make a veteran’s minimum of $800,000 a year if he gets picked up by an NFL team. His twin brother Ronde Barber is in his 15th season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
