The recently unearthed audition tape showing Kevin Bacon in the vintage Footloose flick, circa 1984, has got the actor a bit worked up.

Kevin told PEOPLE, “It was like a weird time-travel, out-of-body type thing. It’s like if you went and saw the interview you did
for your first job. Wow. I literally turned the thing off, went into the
bathroom, looked myself in the mirror and went, ‘Jesus, is that even the
same guy?'”

Does this mean he wanted to hurl? Apparently not. He clarified, “Honestly, I was impressed. The energy, the hunger, the determination … it was cockiness really. I oozed
 it.”

The film went on to make more than 10 times its initial $8 million budget. The flick was considered a box office hit but to this day Kevin has a few regrets.

He wanted to perform his own flips and more of the complicated dance moves in the warehouse scene but the producers brought in a double.

Bacon admits he was furious, “It’s like a starting
pitcher getting taken out of a game – no one wants to be told they can’t get
 the guy out.”

The studio told Kevin to keep his mouth shut about the stand in. “I had a stunt double, a
dance double and two gymnastics doubles. There were five of
us in the f—ing outfit, and I felt horrible.”

The remake of Footloose starring Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald opens in theaters today.
