Sarah Jessica Parker recently learned that all of her scenes in the biopic ‘Lovelace’ have ended up on the cutting room floor.
The former ‘Sex and the City’ actress came to the rescue of director’s Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman when she stepped in last year for rehab-bound Demi Moore, to take on the role of feminist activist Gloria Steinem.
The film about legendary adult film star Linda Lovelace will debut next week at the Sundance Film Festival, where the producers hope to line up a distribution source.
Regarding the decision to end the film in 1980 instead of 1984, when Lovelace began an association with SJP’s character, Friedman acknowledged, “You never want to make that call. But she was a pro.”
The actress had been reluctant from the get-go to step in at the last minute. She said, “It was difficult because, obviously, the circumstances are not ideal and I conveyed that to the filmmakers. The daunting task of playing somebody with very little time to prepare, who was obviously such an important person in the women’s movement, but also played such a pivotal role in Linda’s life.”
Looks like she predicted her own demise. Pivotal role or not … it didn’t fly. Seems like a clear case of the director’s setting her up to fail. We hope she was compensated well for her efforts.
Film co-stars who did not end up on the cutting room floor include Amanda Seyfriend, Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, James Franco, Chris Noth, Debi Mazar, and Adam Brody.
