The Marine Corps Band has confirmed that the rendition of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ belted out Monday by Beyonce was really recorded prior to the Inauguration.

Unlike Kelly Clarkson, who sang ‘My Country, ‘Tis of Thee’ live during Monday’s high profile swearing-in ceremony, we are now learning that at the last moment Beyonce sent word to the Marine Corps Band that she had decided to rely on a recording rather than sing live.

The baffling part of this scenario was the rather dramatic way that Beyonce ripped out her earpiece midway through the song, suggesting that she was experiencing sound issues.

Musician Beau Davidson, who performed the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ numerous times during Mitt Romney campaign stops in 2012, provided his spin on things.

He said, “Sometimes, as singers, we get sick or vocally tired, and if we can’t delivery an excellent performance, we may feel the need to lean on a prior recording. It’s our voice — sorry Milli Vanilli — just not live at that moment.”

With the Super Bowl XLVII Pepsi Halftime Show just two weeks away we’ve got to wonder if that will also be recorded or if she plans to deliver the real deal as 150 million viewers watch her every move.
