Comedic actor Jim Carrey has had a change of heart about his new film ‘Kick-Ass 2,’ that was set to hit theaters on June 28, 2013.
Carrey publicly denounced the superhero satire over the weekend because he believes it is too violent in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting massacre that left 26 dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
He posted this Twitter message on Sunday:
Later he added, “I meant to say … My apologies to others involved in the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
‘Kick-Ass comic book creator Mark Millar blogged about the condemnation on his millarworld.tv forum: “I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay eighteen months ago. Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin.”
He added, “I couldn’t be happier with this picture.” Despite the 11th hour diss, Millar gave props to the star, “Carrey was magnificent. It was one of his best-ever performances.”
Regarding Jim’s change of heart, Miller said, “Ultimately, this is his decision.”
A new movie poster, seen above, was released yesterday. The release date has been replaced by the words … coming soon. It remains unclear if or when it will hit the big screen.
