Chris Brown was charged with criminal hit-and-run Tuesday in connection with a minor accident last month.

Brown was driving a Range Rover in Toluca Lake, CA, on May 21, when he allegedly rear-ended a Mercedes and refused to give the other driver his license, and gave her fake insurance information before leaving the scene. He is also being charged with driving without a valid license.

The 24-year-old singer took to Twitter to defend himself. “It’s not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is ridiculous,” he tweeted.

Both crimes carry a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail for each offense. The City Attorney is also referring the matter to the L.A. County District Attorney for a possible probation violation. According to TMZ, if the judge concludes Brown broke the law and violated his probation, he could face up to 4 years in prison.
