Former ‘Apprentice’ winner Bill Rancic was the last person out of the starting gate at Sunday’s New York City Marathon but he managed to pass more than half of the field to earn a great deal of money for charity.

He finished the race with a time of 4:57:23, which put him in an overall placement of 37764 out of 50,740 runners. TimexSports paid the businessman $1 for every runner that he passed on his way to the finish line and added a generous bonus.

The entrepreneur and public speaker tweeted, “Got the official world. I’m thrilled to have raised $30k for my wife’s charity @FabUWish at @INGNYCMarathon. Thank u @TimexSports & all of u!”

Giuliana Rancic’s program help women fighting breast or ovarian cancer by granting wishes – patterned after the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Timex posted a photo of Rancic crossing the finish line at 6:15 p.m. last night. They tweeted, “Congratulations @ BillRancic! Great race! #IMARUNNER”

The 42-year-old has run marathons in the past – with his first attempt at age 28 and again at 30. He acknowledged, “I think every guy that hits his 40s has a little bit of a wake-up call and wants to just keep things real, as they say, and just to push yourself. For me, it was important to just prove to myself that I could do it.”

Animal rights activist and former ‘Baywatch’ star Pamela Anderson finished the race at age 46 and earned $76k for her charity – photos here.
