If there’s one thing we know after The Originals Season 2 Episode 1, it’s that becoming a hybrid is a serious adjustment.
Hayley is struggling not only with the loss of her daughter but also with the loss of her mortality and as she takes center stage in the Mikaelson family we learn just how hard this transformation has been for her in the four months since The Originals season 1 ended.
Hayley doesn’t like being a vampire. She longs for the “purity” of being just a werewolf and for the way she was once accepted by her pack. Now, having only the brothers Mikaelson standing by her side, she’s lost.
But Klaus and Elijah are definitely some beautiful pieces of arm candy, no?
The thing she misses most is her daughter. As such, she willingly participates in a scheme to slaughter most of the werewolves who’ve taken over the Quarter under Francesca Guerrera’s watch. She later feels guilty for her participation but (hopefully) knows that it was for the greater good of bringing her daughter home.
Klaus tries to help her come to terms with her newfound immortality by telling her that, in time, the good moments she’ll have as someone who can never die will far outweigh the bad. The bad moments will fade into the background of her existence.
It’s a poignant moment and Klaus is definitely one who should know seeing how he’s done a lot of bad things in his day.
Elijah, meanwhile, really struggles to understand just what it is she’s experiencing. He isn’t a parent, nor is he a hybrid, and this causes some tension in their relationship.
We’re going to have to watch The Originals online to see how their relationship progresses, with our fingers crossed that things work out for the best.
The witches of New Orleans are scattered. Davina is playing with fire my keeping Mikael locked away in the church attic, tethered to her by a magical bracelet while she finds a way to unlink her friends from their sire lines.
The new witch in town, Cassie, has assumed the role of coven leader, despite the fact that she’s little more than a teenager. She’s really Esther in disguise so she has a great deal of power to command others to do her bidding. With her dead sons by her side, she’s sure to have an evil plan in the works.
We can’t wait to find out exactly what it is.
