Lee Daniels’ The Butler remains a commercial darling in its second week, dishing out defeat to some of the new arrivals at the summer box office.
The Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey drama fell 31 percent to $17 million last weekend, bringing the film’s gross to $52.3 million after ten days.
We’re the Millers fell 25 percent to $13.5 million in its third weekend, bringing it up to $91.7 million total, a strong haul for the Jennifer Aniston comedy.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, meanwhile, misfired in its first five days in theaters, taking in just $14.1 million since its Wednesday debut.
The World’s End earned $8.9 million, finishing in fourth place last weekend, while Disney’s Planes dipped 36 percent in its third weekend to $8.6 million.
