The Kate Middleton photo scandal has forced the resignation of one tabloid editor.

The former head of the Irish Daily Star has stepped down after his decision to publish the many controversial shots of Kate Middleton topless this fall.

Michael O’Kane, who was suspended in September for the incident, resigned amid tensions with shareholders and the owner’s threats to shut down the publication.

“As a result of the publication on 15 September 12, issues arose with the shareholders of Independent Star Limited,” the Daily Star wrote in a statement to the BBC.

“Having considered those issues in tandem with Mr. O’Kane, it is Mr. O’Kane’s decision to resign as editor of the Irish Daily Star,” the statement concluded.

So it goes.

The Irish Daily Star republished the Kate Middleton pictures in September after the snaps popped up in French gossip magazine Closer and Italian mag Chi.

The royal family has filed legal complaints against the publications who defied their requests for privacy, and it appears heads are already starting to roll.

In other news, she reportedly wants a baby for Christmas.
