Zayn Malik is officially going solo in more ways than one.

The former One Direction star signed a recording contract with RCA last week, angering fans by saying he’s psyched to start making "real music" on his own.

But that’s not the only way Malik is on his own:

People Magazine has confirmed that the artist and Perrie Edwards have ended their engagement.

A source tells the publication that Malik initiated the break-up and that Edwards has been left “devastated” by the split.

"She’s been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she’s obviously devastated," the insider says, adding that the engagement was actually called off two weeks ago and noting:

"Perrie’s being supported by her bandmates, but she’s really in pieces about this."

Malik and Edwards got engaged in December 2013.

Ever since, however, the couple has been barraged with questions about why they never set a wedding date.

Then, immediately after quitting One Direction, Malik was accused of cheating on Edwards, though he responded to that chatter with anger.

“I’m 22 years old," he wrote in early April. "I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f—ks in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like."

That may very well have been true back then for Zayn. But apparently it no longer holds up now.
