The man responsible for posting nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and other Hollywood starlets this week may now be on the run from the authorities.

The hacker – referred to by his peers as "Original Guy" – posted a message to an online forum yesterday, thanking fans of his work for their support and asking for donations to help him evade investigators:

“Guys, just to let you know I didn’t do this by myself," the hacker wrote. "There are several other people who were in on it and I needed to count on to make this [happen].

"This is the result of several months of long and hard work by all involved. We appreciate your donations and applaud your excitement.”

Yes, "Original Guy" applauds your excitement about stolen data and wants your money to help him go on the lam. He sounds more and more like a stand-up guy every day.

Meanwhile, a Georgia man who was originally thought to be one of the masterminds behind the Nude Photo Scandal of 2014 is now claiming that he’s not involved. He’s using the convincing argument that he’s too "stupid" to pull off such a heist:

“I am not behind this. It was so stupid — I saw a lot of people posting the actual leaks and bitcoin addresses and I’ve read a lot about bitcoin and how they are valuable and I thought, oh cool I’ll get free bitcoins."

Successful hacking efforts of this magnitude are – thankfully – pretty rare, and we’ve never seen a time when so many celebs were involved in the same scandal.

So we’re really in uncharted territory here, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out and what the authorities will deem worthy of prosecution.

We’ll keep you posted on this developing story.
