The Amanda Bynes situation continues to go from bad to worse as new reports of the former child star’s bizarre behavior seem to surface every few hours.
Yesterday, for example, Bynes was caught shoplifting twice, both times being released after explaining to security guards and police that she had not actually intended to steal anything.
Prior to that, Bynes told a tabloid reporter that she believes she has a microchip in her head that allows the entire world to read her thoughts.
So yeah, if the situation was ever funny, it’s certainly not anymore – a point well-expressed today by Nick Cannon.
Cannon and Bynes have been friends since they worked together on Nickelodeon in the late 90s. When asked about Amanda in an interview, Nick offered an impassioned defense.
“Just because it’s someone that is a public figure we feel like it’s fun,” Cannon said. “But no, this is someone who needs help…and she was getting help. And I’m pretty sure she’ll continue to get help again.”
“People started to make fun of her and people started to think it was entertaining to make jokes. My heart goes out to her. I pray for her daily.”
Cannon added that he’s recently communicated with Bynes via text. Amanda’s mother is reportedly planning a trip to New York to convince her daughter to seek treatment.
