‘Wolverine’ star Hugh Jackman posted an Instagram selfie that prominently featured two band-aids plastered across his nose.
The 45-year-old actor is crediting his wife Deborra-Lee Furness for alerting him to the possibility that a discoloration on his nose needed to be looked at by his physician.
He revealed on social media, “Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
His lesion was very subtle based on a recent photo – though he may have been covering the skin blemish with makeup.
An estimated 2.8 million cases of basil cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in the U.S., according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.
The standard treatment protocol after removal of the tumor may include topical medications and/or radiation in some cases.
Jackman was in Montreal last week to complete cast reshoots for his upcoming film ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ The series installment was shot in 3D and is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on May 23, 2014.
