The self destruction phase seems to be over for Charlie Sheen, who is making the rounds on a mission of fence mending and damage control.

Last night the actor sat down with Jay Leno and chatted about his last year of crazy behavior, and the fact that he was fired from the best gig in town.

Charlie spoke about Two and a Half Men and creator Chuck Lorre. “I would have fired my ass too — well, maybe not like they did. It is what is is. It was bad and I own my part in that, and I just want to make everything right.”

By way of explanation, Charlie elaborated, “I should have been a little more responsible about the condition I was showing up in.”

Leno asked Sheen what advice he would give to Ashton Kutcher, “It’s hard to give advice to a guy that accomplished. I would just give him a hug and just say, ‘Make me proud, dude.’”

Sheen spoke about ‘Tiger Blood’ and ‘Adonis DNA,’ admitting that it was a bit out there and that he overshot the mark a bit but goes on to say that these were just jokes. FYI, he reports that he is now completely “out of slogans.”

As far as his personal relationships go, Charlie reports that the relationship with his father Martin Sheen is “totally repaired” and he and his ex wife Brooke Mueller are getting on well too.

What’s up next? Charlie is working on a television show called Anger Management which is loosely based on the Adam Sandler movie.

Last night’s Leno interview showed the calm and rational Charlie that we remember and loved. Check it out below:
