You don’t have to be a mom to help a mom, you just have to be one in a million. ABC News and the UN Foundation have launched the Million Moms Challenge.

Women all over the country find out that they are expecting a child. While this should be one of the most joyous times in their lives, some women don’t have that luxury and are overridden with worry and for a good reason.

  • Every 90 seconds, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Most of those deaths are in the developing world.
  • 1 in 5 women in Africa loses a baby in her lifetime. In richer countries, that number is around 1 in 125
  • Almost 9 million children die each year before their 5th birthdays—that’s more than 24,000 children each day—from largely preventable causes.

Think about all of the children who grow up without mothers. Shocking and sad. There is an upside to this, the solutions are not far from reach, if we can all pull together.

As you can see from the photo above – I have signed the Million Moms Challenge and hope you will take a few minutes of your time to do the same. Click here to send in your Million Moms photo.
