We might have an even weirder timeline than usual on our hands, but The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 2 definitely answered one question we’ve all had since The Vampire Diaries season 5 finale:
WHEN are Bonnie and Damon? Not where. When. And the answer? May 10, 1994.
If you watch The Vampire Diaries online, you know that Bonnie and Damon were transported to some…place. Grams told Bonnie she would be able to find peace there, but since it’s Mystic Falls in 1994 and there’s not a single other soul around, it really seems like Grams was sending Bonnie to insanity.
Lonely, solitary, insanity.
Someone, or some THING, is there with Bonnie and Damon, but they do not know who. Neither do we, though some of us are busy hazarding guesses all over the Internet.
Elsewhere, Enzo showed an affinity for Caroline when he accompanied her on a road trip to follow a lead about how they might bring Bonnie and Damon back from wherever it is they are.
After they confront Stefan about how he’s given up on Damon and Enzo sees Caroline crying, he comes to her rescue by promising to torture Stefan any time he tries to create a new life for himself without thinking about his brother.
Repeatedly killing her (former?) best guy friend might not win him any brownie points with Caroline, but hey, Enzo’s hot while he’s being a neck guy. (Seriously. AMAZING work casting him. Keep him forever and ever and ever.)
The most poignant moments from the episode go to Elena and Alaric and his work to compel her to forget she ever loved Damon. He asks her to identify the moment she first knew she loved him, knowing that her memories will ripple from there, altering the landscape of the past three years of her life.
Once she finally does that, his plan works, and she’s left with hatred where once there was “a love that consumed her.”
