The reunion we’ve been waiting three weeks to see took place on Scandal Season 4 Episode 4, but it wasn’t quite the Fitz-Olivia reunion many were expecting or hoping for.
Yeah, it was the other kind of reunion. The one where Fitz acts like a giant crybaby and then decides to lick his wounds while going after the guy who stole Olivia’s attention while she was on a remote island.
If he can’t have her no one can?
I’m not a big Fitz fan, for one, but I’m even less a fan when he acts like a brat when it comes to Olivia and/or can’t stop thinking with his Little Fitz long enough to put his family first.
He can be whatever kind of unlikable man he wants to be, but for the love of Pete, dude, get it together at least half the time.
What sparked his tantrum?
Learning that Olivia and Jake had gone away together. She hadn’t been alone and had, in fact, been cozying up to the former Command.
You know, the guy who used to be Fitz’ friend. Before they fell for the same woman, that is. (If we can call what Fitz has done “falling.” It’s more like “obsessing.”)
Now, because Jake was with Olivia, and Olivia didn’t seem remorseful about that at all when she fessed up to Fitz, Fitz has it out for Jake, going so far as to call in Rowan Pope to deal with the news that Tom Larsen, a Secret Service agent routinely assigned to the President’s family, went rogue and was the one to kill Jerry Jr.
Because of course when you get Angry!Rowan in the interrogation room, Tom is going to blurt out Jake’s name as the one who sent him to kill the kid! OF COURSE HE IS.
When Tom asked to speak to Fitz and Fitz denied the request, that was proof enough that Fitz only wanted to hear one name come out of Tom’s mouth. The truth didn’t matter. Fitz is going to believe what he wants to believe, mostly because that belief allows him to try Jake for treason. Or have Rowan throw him back into a hole to break him.
All because Olivia slept with Jake. AND ENJOYED IT! (Shock! Horror! She enjoyed having sex with someone who wasn’t Fitz!!)
UGH UGH UGH!
In other news, Mellie Grant is slowly, slowly going to come out of this fog of grief she’s in, not that anyone can blame any of them for grieving the loss of their son in such a public manner. And it’s her family who will do it. Or at least her daughter.
Neither of them seem to be parenting their kids, but if moving Karen Grant to the White House gives us more Mellie moments like the one last night, then let’s pack Karen’s bags and bring her home. Throw some Teddy in the mix and let’s give Mellie some direction again. Some purpose.
(And if Fitz makes one more comment about being a soccer dad in Vermont when he HAS LIVING CHILDREN WHO NEED HIM let’s all collectively punch him in the mouth.)
In other other news, Abby isn’t dealing well with her role as Press Secretary. There are some things she feels she needs to know which Cyrus doesn’t feel she needs to know and that’s making her job difficult. According to her, at least.
What it really boils down to is that she’s jealous of the way Olivia can just waltz in and out of the White House, fixing problems, billing hours, and being a badass. Abby expected that being brought on as Press Secretary would afford her the job of being the White House fixer.
Maybe it would have if Olivia hadn’t come back. But she did. So Abby didn’t get the job. Bummer for her.
