While many shows are airing filler episodes at this point in the season to help with the build up to mid-seasons finales, NCIS Season 12 Episode 7 was anything but.

It was a packed hour, but a necessary one.

The relationship between Gibbs and Bishop was advanced as she called him out on the way he treats her differently than the other probies. But she is different, so…

Viewers have been complaining that she was given an incredible amount of leeway when it came to working on cases. For example, the way she sat on the floor and never got so much as a reprimand.

Ducky put her on the path to recognizing that she was being treated more favorably than others and knowing that wasn’t something she could handle, so she confronted Gibbs who in turn unloaded on her about all the ways he’s been disappointed by her since she joined the team.

It was a terrible addition to the otherwise excellent observation of Veteran’s Day. The story needed to be told, but perhaps at another time.

The crime of the week was just okay as far as crimes go, telegraphed by the fact that Aaron Abrams was typecast as the bad guy. When an actor known for playing a villain is cast, there’s a good bet s/he’ll be playing a bad guy.

Still, the series handled the gravity of Veterans Day with the right kind of honor, and for that, it earns a gold star.
