Seven people were killed last night around 6 p.m. in Truxton, New York when a tractor-trailer collided with a minivan on a two-lane highway.

The tragedy took place on Route 13, approximately 25 miles south of Syracuse, when the trailer got dislodged and crossed over the center line. It slammed into a vehicle carrying eight people, ripping the minivan apart.

The two people in the truck were not injured, while nearly everyone in the minivan died. Their identities have not yet been released, though we can confirm children are among the deceased.

“It was a bad accident,” said Captain Mark Helms of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department.

It’s unclear what caused the wreck, although there were were bad thunderstorms and even hail reported in the area at the time.

The single minivan survivor was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and his/her condition is not known right now.
