Scandal Season 3 Premiere Recap: It's Handled

by at .  Updated at . Comments

What a packed night Thursdays are turning out to be. Scandal, the hottest show on television, is back!

Just what has transpired since the shocking revelation that Jake's boss is Olivia's dad? Well, not much. The premiere picks up immediately where the previous episode left off and we're here to recap it for you! (For a more in-depth look at the episode, head over to our Scandal review!)

  • Daddy Issues: Olivia's dad advises her to flee the country to escape the infamous label of being the President's mistress. He puts her on a fully fueled jet, gives her a new identity, and promises to care for her team financially. She calls Cyrus who begs her not to go and then gets off the plane determined to take care of the issue herself.
  • Trust No One: Cyrus promises not to burn Olivia, but as public evidence mounts that she's his mistress, he prepares to burn her, which is the one thing he said he wouldn't do. But hey, he's not having Charlie take care of things, so that's a plus, right?
  • White Hat Wearers Union: David stops by as a friend to tell Olivia that he thinks she should get in front of the story. His stopping by Pope and Associates had absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact that Abby apparently hasn't returned his calls and he wanted to see her and her glorious hair. Nope. Nothing to do with that at all.
  • Fire Alarm: After meeting with her dad in an underground parking garage, asking about Jake, and being told by her dad that he's the reason people can sleep at night, Olivia pulls the "fire alarm" and arranges a super, ultra, mega, top-secret meeting with Fitz. And Mellie. Mellie calls Olivia a whore and Olivia gives Mellie one of her infamous verbal smackdowns.
  • Plan B: Mellie doesn't think the truth is the best plan and hands a disc over to Pope and Associates so that they can hand the disc back to Cyrus. The disc implicates a different White House staffer as the President's mistress. Liv's in the clear.
  • Game On: Mellie knows that Fitz leaked Olivia's name to the press. Fitz knows how to play Mellie like a violin.
  • Guess Who's Back. Back Again: Charlie's back, and this time he's on Papa Pope's payroll. He drugs James and then carts Cyrus off to meet with Rowan where Cyrus learns just what Operation Remington, a mission Jake and Fitz flew in Iran, was all about. It stuns Cyrus to silence so it must be good.
