Republican Debate Smackdown: Ron Paul vs. Michele Bachmann

by at .

Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney lead the polls, and Rick Perry may generate the best sound bites ("best" as in most entertaining, if not intelligent), but Ron Paul proved at last night's Republican debate that he's still a force to be reckoned with.

Never one to bend to party orthodoxy, Paul took issue with rival Michele Bachmann's stance toward Iran and its nuclear program, advocating anti-engagement policies that make the Texas Congressman an anathema to many in the GOP, yet wildly popular with others.

End the wars? Spend the money in America? Who would vote for that? We need to keep shipping our tax dollars overseas. If we run out of money we can always gut medicare and social security. We need more wars. Support Michelle Bachmann.

dear derek, I am only asking for understanding and I do not mean to be offensive. But Ms.bachmann being tougher than steel with a titanium spine? why does America need alien or predator? Perhaps the world needs more thought before 'shooting first' to make this a better place. There has been no state sponsored attack on the US since Pearl Harbour. Your elections are so impressive

The Obama-Paul line of accommodation, apology, and appeasement towards radical Islam and Iran. "...for you to say maybe in a year they might have a weapon, there's a lot more saying they don't have it.” The only evidence that Paul will accept is an atomic weapon in Iran's hands. His policy of submission to radical Islam is the blueprint for national suicide for the U.S. I trust Michele Bachmann. She is as smart as a whip and tougher than steel--the little lady with a spine of titanium. She is loved by patriotic Americans; she is hated by the jihadist's "useful idiots."

As an observer it is easy to see why Ron Paul has such a refreshing appeal. He takes into account 'other' countries views, is committed to 'walk' the US constitution and is practical. It says something about the other candidates that they stand apart from such values
