Despite a tanked economy, Mary-Kate Olsen and her twin sister Ashley Olsen‘s fashion line, The Row, is enjoying brisk sales. One item is currently sold out–the $39,000 black alligator backpack.
The price is outrageous, to be sure, but thanks to the Paris launch of the twins’ latest handbag collection, people with money to burn have snatched up the hot accessory item.
According to Ashley O, the spendy backpack was “the first thing that sold off the shelf.” Her sister Mary-Kate isn’t surprised because it is so versatile, “We wanted to do a bag for every occasion.”
Barney’s Fashion Director Amanda Brooks chatted about the item when it debuted in July. She said, “If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that’s the bag you should buy. There’s enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags — and I think you might be the only one who has it.”
This does beg the question … if you had $39,000 to spend, what would you buy?
