As you’ve probably heard, Lena Dunham was accused of sexual molestation over the weekend, as the result of an anecdote about her younger sister Grace that she relays in her new book, Not That Kind of Girl.

Here’s the offending passage:

“One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.”

Gross? Yep. Weird? Definitely. Sexual abuse? Well, Twitter certainly seems to think so, though it’s worth noting that the inciudent described took place when Lena was 7 years old.

Dunham’s been viciously attacked online in the days since Truth Revolt quoted the excerpt as evidence that Dunham sexually molested her sister.

Some have have attempted to organize a boycott of Dunham’s HBO series Girls, while others have demanded that Lena be criminally prosecuted.

Dunham has canceled several appearances and sent a cease and desist letter to the website that created the controversy.

She’s described her reaction to the incident as a “rage spiral.”
