On Monday cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of Michael Jackson. Immediately after the verdict was announced Conrad was handcuffed and brought to the Los Angeles County Jail.

Murray’s attorney confirmed today on Good Morning America that his client has been placed on suicide watch. Conrad has not threatened to harm himself, it a more of a precautionary measure at this point.

The doctor was deemed a “keep away inmate” and is in a single cell in the medical area, which has a higher ratio of guards, for his own protection. He will have an escort assigned to shadow him wherever he goes and he will not be allowed to converse with other inmates.

Facing a maximum of four years behind bars, Conrad will be sentenced on November 29. He has already been stripped of his medical license.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor stated in court that the reason for Murray’s early detainment was a concern for public safety now that he is a convicted felon.

His legal team plans to appeal the guilty verdict.
