Brooke Mueller, the 33-year-old ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, has decided that her out of control drug addiction might be helped by entering an ‘extreme’ rehab program in Cancun, Mexico.

She learned about an intensive seven day treatment plan that involves the controlled substance Ibogaine, which is supposed to stop the craving for opiates. The hallucinogen isn’t legal in the U.S.

Mueller is reportedly desperate after her most recent relapse, which occurred just days after her last 45-day outpatient treatment stint.

Her first attempt to travel to Cancun ended abruptly when she became extremely agitated as her United flight was backing away from a gate at LAX. She got into a heated confrontation with a flight attendant and she was escorted off the jet.

Weighing in, Dr. Drew Pinsky said: “In my experience people, after Ibogaine, stop opiates for three to six months and then they begin again. I have had this experience with dozens of patients, but most disturbingly these patients had persistent mood and personality changes.”

Her L.A. doctors recommend that she commit to “a year long intense in-patient rehabilitation program.” She continues to reject that option, citing the fact that she will not be separated from her twin sons.

The saga continues …
