Kim Kardashian can’t seem to catch a break. She has become the reluctant poster child for California millionaires who pay low taxes on their huge incomes.
The liberal advocacy group Courage Campaign is using the reality star and her 2010 income of $12 million to demonstrate that the rich get richer, while paying the same tax rate as middle-class American’s.
They are making a case for raising taxes on Californians who make more than $1 million per year. The website TaxKimK.com claims that Kardashian paid 10.3 percent in income taxes, compared to the average Californian who made $47,000 and forked over 9.3 percent in income tax.
Courage Campaign is a progressive grassroots non-profit that relies heavily on email, Facebook and Twitter to get their message to the masses. Known for championing progressive causes, the organization was founded in 2006 and boasts 750,000 members, based mainly in Los Angeles.
Head honcho Rick Jacobs wants to keep the rhetoric civil, “We’re not judging Miss Kardashian, we are just making a very simple point. It isn’t fair or appropriate for someone who makes that kind of money to pay essentially the same tax rate as someone who makes $47K. It doesn’t make any sense.”
Collectively the Kardashian family made $65 million in 2010. You do the math…
