Former UConn basketball star and WNBA standout Diana Taurasi has been suspended from a pro league in Turkey after testing positive for a banned substance.

Widely considered the world’s most dominant female player, Taurasi has won the last four Euroleague titles, and currently leads the Euroleague in scoring.

According to Taurasi’s attorney, Howard Jacobs, her “A” sample came back positive, and she has requested that her “B” sample be tested.

The substance “was not a steroid or recreational drug,” Jacobs said.

According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), testing results cannot be released without a conclusive test on the “B” sample, however, confidentiality rules were breached, and the information was leaked in Turkey.

Of note: Taurasi has never tested positive for any performance enhancing substances in the more than 30 times over the past 10 years she has been tested.

It should also be noted that the laboratories responsible for testing Taurasi were suspended by the WADA in 2009, and were not permitted to analyze doping samples for two months.
