Gwyneth Paltrow will take to the stage at the 2010 CMAs to sing alongside Vince Gill.

Paltrow will perform the title track from her new movie, “Country Strong,” in which she plays a washed-up country singer who makes a comeback.

“I just knew that she had the chops to do it and I thought that it was a surprising choice,” ‘Country Strong’ director Shana Feste told PEOPLE of Paltrow’s role. “She’s not who you’d think of when you think country singer. Your mind doesn’t immediately go to Gwyneth Paltrow, but I knew that she had the acting ability to pull it off.”

The soundtrack is scheduled for release on October 26. “Country Strong” opens in Los Angeles and Nashville on December 22, and nationwide on January 7.

The Country Music Awards air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena November 10 on ABC.
