Graphic video of 23-year-old Dayna Kempson-Schacht‘s death following a car crash has come under scrutiny after footage was posted online, and emailed to the young woman’s grieving parents, Jeff and Lucretia Kempson.
Dayna’s SUV crossed the median, flipped multiple times and crashed into trees on July 17. The mother of two died instantly.
An investigation is being conducted to see if Georgia firefighters violated any rules by filming the scene of the accident on a cell phone and sharing it with other firefighters. An unidentified firefighter later shared the video with patrons at a bar, and it spread from there.
On the video, one person says, ‘Oh my God,’ and two voices can be heard describing body parts.
This is not the first time gruesome images of a fatal car crash have ended up on the internet and in the inbox of grieving family members. Four years ago, the California Highway Patrol leaked accident scene photos of 18-year-old Nikki Catsouras, which made their way to over 1,600 websites.
The Kempsons are hoping to impose laws preventing responders from carrying cell phones to the scene of accidents, saying their radios are enough.
“Any responder on any scene at any time who’s allowed to have his cell phone could take these videos,” he told the Today Show on Tuesday.
