Week 5 – TV Theme Song Performances on DWTS
At the midway point in this season’s completion, is was TV Theme Week on the hit ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars. The eight remaining contestants had to dress and dance to a popular theme song from a television series. One of the celebs even donned a monkey suit.
Prior to the dancing, the judges took the first twenty minutes to recap the progress of the celebrities. From their praise it looks like they believe that Jennifer Grey may be unstoppable, with Audrina and Brandy her only real competition.
WEEK 5 PERFORMANCE SCORES AND JUDGES CRITIQUES:
Brandy and Maks had a breakthrough week, landing at the top of the leaderboard with their quickstep to the theme of Friends. Len was “impressed” and thought the performance was “full of energy”, and Carrie Ann saw “a whole new level of trust” between the partners who have had some issues behind the scenes. They scored 27.
Jennifer Grey and Derek danced a fox trot to the theme song from Married With Children. Bruno called her the “perfect housewife”, Carrie Ann said “it was not as good as your other performances”, and Len was nit-picky. It appears that the watered down dance disappointed the judges, who have come to expect brilliance from this dance pair. They scored 25.
More after the jump:
Kurt Warner and Anna T performed a quickstep to the theme from Bewitched. The judges were very impressed with the smart choreography, including some very effective nose-twitching by Anna. Carrie Ann said Warner “danced in the spirit of Gene Kelly”, Bruno called it brilliant, and Len declared it a vast improvement. They danced third in the lineup and scored 24. The luck of the draw worked against them because it really was one of the best performances of the night.
Rick Fox and Cheryl danced a rumba to the theme from Hillstreet Blues. Dressed as police officers, Bruno called him “mega smooth man’, Carrie Ann said “you turned it on”, and Len liked the “ease and elegance” of the performance. They tied with Kurt and Anna, scoring 24.
Audrina Patridge and Tony danced a rumba to the theme song from The Hills. Carrie Ann said her dance moves were “gorgeous from the hips down”, Len also “loved her feet and legs”, and Bruno said “technically you have improved” but cautioned her “don’t be plastic, be fantastic.” They scored 23.
Florence Henderson and Corky danced a tango to the Brady Bunch theme song. Len said the actress “got to week 5 on merit”, Bruno thought she slipped into “rag doll mode”, and Carrie Ann said she liked it and called her a “sexy senior.” They scored 21.
Kyle Massey and Lacey performed a fox trot to the theme from Charlie’s Angels. They were dressed in 60’s garb, and that may have worked against them–detracting from the dance. Carrie Ann declared it “very groovy, Len said “it started bad, got worse and worse”, and Bruno acknowledged that Kyle “brings on the feel good factor” but “there was not enough fox trot” in the performance. They scored 20.
Bristol Palin and Mark danced the jive to the theme song from The Monkees. They put on furry monkey suits and eventually stripped down to a second set of dance clothes. Len “liked the monkey suits”, and Carrie said it was “a transformation–a big step forward” though their scores didn’t reflect it – a dismal 18.
Eliminated over the past four weeks were: David Hasselhoff, Michael Bolton, Margaret Cho and Mike ‘The Situation’.
Who will go Tuesday night during the Week 5 elimination show? It looks like the teen from Alaska may have danced her last — and on her 20th birthday, no less.
Each week the judges bring one couple back to recreate their dance during the elimination show. Our bet is that Kurt Warner and Anna T. will Bewitch the audience yet again.
