A medical examiner for New York City has issued a statement regarding actor Heath Ledger’s autopsy.

Ledger, who had pneumonia at the time of his death, had a bottle of prescription sleeping pills by his bed when he was found in his bedroom in full cardiac arrest.

New York City Medical Examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said “We have to do further testing including toxicology and tissue testing. Neither cause of death or manner of death has been concluded. We expect additional results in 10 days to two weeks.”

Actress Michelle Williams, Ledger’s former girlfriend, was in Sweden when she got the news late Tuesday night. She and the couple’s daughter, two-year-old Matilda Rose, left early Wednesday morning.

Pneumonia + sleeping pills is a very dangerous combination and it seems very likely this was a tragic accident and not an intentional suicide attempt.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Heath Ledger’s family and friends.
