Rapper 50 Cent is opening up about his rough upbringing and adoption in a new VH1 Rock Doc titled 50 Cent: The Origin of Me.
Born Curtis Jackson 111, he was raised in Queens, New York. His mother Sabrina was 15 when he was born and was murdered when he was 12. The boy moved in with his grandparents, who later adopted him. He has always shared a strong connection with his grandmother, and has her name tattooed on his neck.
VH1 follows the entertainer as he goes back to his roots in Edgefield, South Carolina. The Hip Hop legend travels to the tiny town to learn more about his ancestry and comes face to face with the brutality of slavery.
50 traces his roots back to his great-great-great grandmother Jane Jenkins, who lived and worked as a slave in the mid-1800’s.
The film will make its television debut on VH1 on Monday, May 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
