Ladies—Don’t you just hate it when you’re slaving away in the kitchen all day, presumably barefoot and pregnant, putting the finishing touches on that painstakingly home-cooked meal, only to have your loved one come ambling into the kitchen, clean his plate with nary a word, and stick you with all the dishes?

No, we haven’t magically transported ourselves back to the 1950’s. We’re merely referring to the increasing number of pet-owners who have opted to prepare full, gourmet meals for their cats and dogs in the wake of the Menu Foods poisoning scare. And, naturally, the Times trendspotters are first on the scene!

Arden Moore, author of ???Real Food for Dogs,??? said some pet owners might cook for their pets only temporarily…Her recipes are formulated to be toothsome for both quadruped and cook. When she makes the Canine Casserole (brown rice, ground chuck, carrots, broccoli and garlic) and Marvelous Mutt Meatballs (ground beef, Cheddar cheese, shredded carrots, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder and tomato paste) for her dogs, Chipper and Cleo, she digs in, too. And the Leap for Liver? ???They love it, but for me, no thanks. I???m not a big fan of beef liver.???

In other words, while owners contend with frazzled nerves, dirty dishes and concocting recipes fit for man or beast, their pampered pets are simply lapping up the attention…along with second helpings of the Marvelous Mutt Meatballs, of course.
