Actor Zachary Quinto has dodged the question of his sexuality until now, suddenly feeling an urgency to acknowledge for the first time publicly, “I’m a gay man.”

Quinto recently starred in an Off-Broadway production of Angels in America, and it was a life altering experience.

He told New York magazine in their October 2011 issue, “Doing that play made me realize how fortunate I am to have been born when I was born, and to not have to witness the decimation of an entire generation of amazingly talented and otherwise vital men.”

He went on to say, “As a gay man…. it suddenly became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality.”

The actor has been tapped to play the role of Spock in the 2012 Star Trek sequel. His most recently released flick was What’s Your Number? The ensemble cast included actor Dave Annable – see photo below.
