A family grieves …
Mitch Winehouse and his wife Janis joined the crowds to pay tribute at the home of their deceased daughter Amy Winehouse on Sunday.
Wiping tears from their faces, the distraught parents first visited the coroners office to formally identify their daughter’s body and then traveled to North Camden to visit what has now turned into a memorial site.
The inquest into the singer’s death will begin on Monday afternoon at St Pancras Coroner’s Court.
Speaking to reporters, Mitch said: “Amy was about one thing and that was love, her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends. We’re devastated and speechless but thanks for coming.”
There is speculation the Amy was “distraught and despondent” after splitting with her boyfriend, Reg Traviss. He appeared outside her home hours after her death and joined Amy’s family on Sunday to visit the makeshift memorial site. See their dating photos here.
Amy and her mother had lunch together the day before she was found dead in her bed by a bodyguard. According to Janis, “Amy was out of it, but she told me that she loved me. It was the last thing she said to me. They are the words I will always treasure. I’m glad I saw her when I did. I knew then that it was only a matter of time.”
Police rumors suggest that she died following a drinking binge. “She was in her bedroom after saying to her security guard that she wanted to sleep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing. She died alone in bed.” Reports suggest that she may have been dead as long as six hours prior to being discovered.
