Country singer Willie Nelson was slated to perform last night at a Denver fundraiser for the Dumb Friends League at Castle Pine Village but was forced to cancel after experiencing respiratory difficulties.

According to Colorado 9News, Willie was taken to a local hospital after experiencing breathing problems caused by a combination of high altitude and emphysema.

The 79-year-old country music icon is scheduled to perform on Tuesday at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.

Nelson recently told NBC 5’s Scott Gordon and said he will probably never retire, “I still enjoy coming out and playing music and as long as the people enjoy it and come see us, I see no reason to quit.”
