The classic rock band Van Halen disappointed a multitude of ticket holders late this week when they abruptly cancelled 32 concert dates slated for July, August and September.

The foursome of Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth will honor their next thirteen commitments before halting the tour after a New Orleans performance on June 26, 2012.

They kicked things off in mid-February to support their album A Different Kind of Truth and completed 34 dates when they decided to reassess the long road ahead.

Any number of theories have surfaced, including suggestions that Eddie’s alcohol demons might be getting the best of him. Another scenario has Roth and Eddie in full head butting mode most of the time.

According to TMZ, the situation is actually burnout. The full schedule was “too much, too fast” and the group needs to “recharge their engines.”

At this point they plan to reschedule the 32 unfulfilled tour dates but it seems likely disappointed ticket holders will be seeking refunds rather than rainchecks.

Actress Valerie Bertinelli may be the one person who is happy about this sudden turn of events because it will mean that her son Wolfie, 21, will be back where she can keep a motherly watch over him.

Their first venue since making the big announcement is tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
