Last season’s American Idol winner, country crooner Scotty McCreery, got off to a rough start while kicking off the first game of the 2011 World Series when his microphone malfunctioned during his rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.
The 18-year-old was singing with a dead microphone. Those watching from the comfort of their homes saw the teen’s lips moving but nothing was coming out.
No worries. After switching on the mic, he started over and managed to get through the National Anthem, a somewhat tricky tune, without further incident.
He tweeted after the game, “Well, as Mr. George Strait would say, I wasn’t here for a long time, but I was here for a good time! Great time in St. Louis yesterday!”
