Two out of three may not cut it with voters …

Yikes! During last night’s presidential debate, Republican candidate Rick Perry suffered a gaffe of epic proportions. The harder he tried to extricate himself, the worse it got.

The Texas governor, 61, suffered a mental block that went on for nearly a minute but seemed like an eternity, as he tried to recall the name of a federal agency that he will eliminate if elected to the highest office in the land.

He said, “It’s three government agencies when I get there that are gone: Commerce, Education and the um, what’s the third one there? Let’s see ….” The confusion continued and he never did come up with the Energy Department.

Perry lamented, “I’m glad I had my boots on, because I sure stepped in it tonight.”

The Perry campaign sent out a fund-raising appeal to supporters via e-mail after the debate. It included a bit of humor, “Tonight Rick Perry forgot the third agency he wants to eliminate. Just goes to show there are too damn many federal agencies.”
